2010 Miss Rodeo Washington

After a fun-filled week of humbling competition in Ellensburg, Katie Garfield captured the Photogenics, Knowledge, Sales, Speech, Personality, Appearance, and Presentation categories along with the prestigious title of Miss Rodeo Washington over Labor Day Weekend.  Katie remains energized at the realization of the travels she will embark upon in 2010 sharing her love for Rodeo and enlightening those she meets with details of the picturesque state she calls home, Washington. 

The serene home town of George continues to beckon our twenty one year old with accolades of the “World’s Largest Cherry Pie” and the smell of rural farming.  Katie is the country raised daughter of Anne Henshaw and Mike Garfield.  Surrounded with sagebrush and hay fields, she feels entirely grounded in the true spirit of western living knowing what it feels like to be complete as she and her mom enjoy riding horses along the basalt cliffs that overlook the Columbia River.

Katie’s desire to complete a degree in nursing motivates her to study relentlessly as she attends Yakima Valley Community.  While school is important she also prioritizes her time in order to enjoy her horse-related passions; barrel racing, trail riding, and team roping. Her delightfully infectious personality often entertains friends and family as she instigates practical jokes, rides 4-wheelers with her younger brother Michael, shares the arena with her friends, boats on the Columbia River, and hunts the unfortunate coyote. 

As Washington’s 2010 First Lady of Rodeo, Katie will eagerly dedicate this year in supporting of one of our nation’s truest legacies--rodeo, and the ever-diverse state of Washington.   Throughout the upcoming year Katie aspires to share with others the foundational cowboys beliefs that have held constant over many years; the saturation of true Faith, sportsmanship, and the hardworking image of the American cowboy.  Katie is grateful to represent Washington’s crown with sincerity, optimism and enthusiasm.
